Hi,

This is my first post here.

I am new to the 3D modeling with COMSOL. Could anyone tell me how to draw a simple coil?

Thanks a lot!

Hi.

This is not so simple. I think the best way to do it is to import from a 3D
CAD program. I think you can find examples on the web but you will have to
modify it, so anyway, you need a 3D CAD program.

The major problem is the complexity of the geometry under comsol. I tried to
use a coil to model lenz law but the geometry was to complicated and it
never managed to get a solution. I finally decided to consider the coil as a
succession of torus (moreover, it can remove one dimension if you use 2D
axial symetry).

Best regards,
SB

I have the same problem, don't know how to make a coil

hi

to draw coil you can use comsol script.
u can sue following commands:

arc1 arc2 , curve3 , geomcoerce etc..

hi, I think it is not a good idea drawing a coil... for my simulations I simply draw a cilinder and I have put in the boundary conditions a surface current with the right direction... You can find some examples for the surface current boundary conditions in the comsol tutorials. (Ac dc module I think)

It's possible to draw a coil in COMSOL Script, use the "helix" function for this, it will ask for the parameters needed for the geometry construction, then import the geometry to COMSOL Multiphisics by using import geometrical data tool.

Good luck.
