[COMSOL_Users] License file for new computer (only under maintenace?!?)

I let my maintenance expire a few years ago as I wasn't using COMSOL much. But I do use it occasionally. I recently got a new workstation and wanted to install COMSOL on it. I discovered I also needed a new license file to run the license server on this new machine (which I must as the old workstation will be going away). Well, I called COMSOL to request a license file for the new computer and was told (to my utter disbelief) that the only way they would generate a license file would be if I renewed maintenance! Has anyone else run into this? I'm surprised this is even legal, as it means once your license server dies (which will eventually happen) your pretty much forced to renew maintenance or lose the use of your software. How can they get away with that?!?!

Dear Pat,

I have the same experience in the sense that I wanted to use my float
license under an available cluster (I have a floating license for cluster computing). The comsol support asked me to renew my license file.... They did not answer my query about the license contract item dealing with this issue.

I advice you to read your license contract very carefully...

The comsol guys read the forums very often. They would clarify it...
